Scanners
The Arius IV hand scanner is a portable, lightweight unit to which a
transducer is attached and its position continuously monitored. It can be disassembled and
stored in a briefcase-sized transportation case.
The scanner mounts on pedestals with rubber feet and vacuum and magnetic attachment
fixtures are available for vertical and overhead surface applications.
The X and Y axis fixtures comprise precision-ground rods with integral racks that drive
precision encoders. This provides much better precision and accuracy than friction
machanisms. The X rod is fixed and carries the encoder assembly unit. The Y rod slides
through the assembly unit.
Set screw locks are provided on each axis to facilitate scanning and the Y axis has a
manual increment toggle that can be used to step the y axis forward at equal intervals.
Several scanning lengths are available from the basic 12" lengths for both X and Y
axes to 30" in 6" increments. Other custom lengths can be provided.
SOFTWARE
The hand scanner is compatible with ARIUS IV software. The version used operates in a
paintbrush mode with a display on the monitor that includes setup of the area to be
scanned, specifying the resolution and displaying the area that has been scanned as each
pixel of resolution is covered with the ultrasonic probe.
A walk mode enables the user to scan large areas as a single image by defining the area of
intrest before beginning the inspection and moving the scanner stepwise over the area of
interest. tform concept permits user organizations to input knowledge, structure, evolving
interpretation models into the system.
